UNA Wales campaigns and educates to make the ideals of the UN a reality. Those ideals were summed up by Ex-UN Secretary General Kofi Annan in his Millennium Report as a world free from want, free from fear, and with a sustainable future.

At a time when our world is characterised by gross inequalities within and between nations, and the UN Charter itself is threatened by unilateral actions of member states, this work is more important than ever.

Every year we choose a particular focus for our work.; this year, the focus is on the concept of peacekeeping and the themes we have chosen are:

  • Women in peacekeeping – part of a broader engagement with, and support for, UN Women.
  • The Kampala Compromise -  the UK government’s agreement to the definition of the crime of aggression and to the ICC’s jurisdiction in such cases, and the subsequent refusal to ratify. Part of a broader focus on the UK government’s attitude towards the Security Council.
  • The ban on the use of landmines building on the successful campign leading up to the ban, we intend to explore its application and to lobby for fuller implementation.

UNA Wales is based at the Temple of Peace in Cardiff and is affiliated with the Welsh Centre for International Affairs.
